Have you heard about our First Saturday socials? Beginning in December court members have met at a variety of restaurants. Our first meeting was a La Madelaine at 1960/Hwy 290. Response was very positive.
The second meeting was January 5 at Azuls for dinner following the 5:00 pm Mass. A few guests joined in the fun. On February 2 members and guests met at First Watch in Fairfield for breakfast. The next event will be on March 2, location to be announced. Check out the calendar on this website for more information.
Court members joined with thousands of fellow Texans at the Houston National Cemetary on December 12 to decorate the gravesites of veterans with Wreaths Across America. Court members who participated were Linda Markey, Celeste Lubenow, Martha Stevens, Christine Maniscalco, Yvonne Turnbow and Yvonne Rinaldi.
Members enjoyed our Court’s annual Christmas party on Sunday, December 9. We gathered in the Community Center to enjoy potluck dishes, games, music and visiting with each other. Father Ralph joined us, as well as a great many guests, both old and young! Drawing skills were tested during Pictionary, as well as everyone’s memory of Christmas songs! Bingo winners chose gifts from the White Elephant table.
Lela Polichino was the winner for the grand raffle prize: a beautiful statue of Our Lady of Hope. The beautiful centerpieces designed by Christine Maniscalco were raffled off as well. Pat Gutierrez also provided Christmas poppers.
Three very full boxes of teen gifts for boys and girls were delivered to Cypress Assistance Ministries just in time for distribution for Christmas.
From November 10 to 13 the main driveway leading into Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church was lined with American flags. Some of the flags had an additional ribbon commemorating a veteran sponsored by parishioners in conjunction with our Wreaths Across American sales weekend..
The court was joined with American Heritage Girls and their mothers in helping to get sponsorships, as well as placement of the flags. The weekend was a bit cool, but it did not slow down the enthusiasm of all the girls and women involved in placement of the flags.
Members who helped were: Christine Maniscalco, Fredna Kilcommins, Carol Hall, Elizabeth Thompson and Yvonne Rinaldi.
Behind the scenes prepping ribbons and flags were: Carolyn Maniscalco, Christine Maniscalco (who both hostessed our prep sessions), Patty Kierce, Carol Hall, Lora St. Germaine, Yvonne Rinaldi, and Patricia Gutierrez.
Elizabeth Thompson has been one of several core members who were instrumental in the formation of our local court. She was presented her Past Regent pin at the September 19 meeting.
The first two years of the Court she served as Financial Secretary, followed by 2 years as our Regent. She continues to be an active member and is always open to offering her time, talent and treasure.
Saturday, October 13 Court members met at the home of Carolyn Maniscalco to prepare ribbons and enjoy a bit of food and wine.
Christine Maniscalco, our hostess, Patty Kierce, Yvonne Rinaldi, Lora St Germaine and Carolyn Wells cut well over 500 ribbons. Each ribbon was hairsprayed, sealing to be written on. The ribbons will be used to record names of veterans and tied to American Flags. Close to 300 flags will be displayed along the entry driveway to Christ the Redeemer over Veterans’ Day weekend.
Parishioners will be asked to sponsor a ribbon in combination with our Wreaths Across America the weekend of October 20-21.
What began 4 years ago was celebrated with several members, newly installed officers and guests beginning with Mass at Christ the Redeemer. Our celebrant was Father Ralph Roberts assisted by Deacon Jack Alexander. The Saturday vigil mass was joyful and helped promote CDA to the parish community. Members who could remain after Mass joined in this beautiful group shot. Thank you so much to those spouses who took the pictures.
Soon after members gathered at Sam’s Seafood & Steak on Grant Road to enjoy company, visiting, delicious steak/seafood dinners. The dinner chairperson was Christine Maniscalco, assisted by several court members with planning. Carolyn Maniscalco ensured we had a beautiful cake with the CDA logo courtesy of Sam’s Club bakery.
Past Regent Elizabeth Thompson gave a brief overview of our past year. As she was listing all the events, parties, support and participation given to CTR ministries it was evident our court is very active. She recognized our past Treasurer, Martha Stevens for her willingness to rise above and beyond when asked to help our court since it’s inception. Martha served as our Court Treasurer for 2 terms.
In addition to enjoying dinner and drink, guests had the opportunity to win our Anniversary raffle. Connie Troutt held the lucky number, and won a commemorative plate from the visit Pope John Paul II made to San Antonio during his US visit in 1987. The plate was donated by Christine Maniscalco.
Court members assisted with serving meals and snacks for the Archdiocesan Engaged Encounter Weekend that took place the weekend of July 28 & 29. As many as 60 participants and team members enjoyed catered and homemade snacks served by members of our Court on Saturday. Sunday they were joined by Elizabeth Thompson and Martha Stevens.
The members enjoyed time to serve, as well as time to visit and get to know one another. This service was offered under the request of Christy Wright, Family Life Ministry with Christ the Redeemer.
“Many thanks to the members who were able to take time to come serve and show the true spirit of being a Catholic Daughter to the couples preparing for marriage.”
